The first ever Junior Research Symposium in Sri Lanka
Whyteleafe proudly initiated The first ever Junior Research Symposium in Sri Lanka recently at the Jasmine Hall, BMICH. 19 Junior researchers aged between 12-18 years launched 15 research reports and presented their findings in front of a 15-member expert panel which consisted of professionals from universities and other vital sectors of the country.
This concept, which was gradually developed over two and half years ago was created and customized by the founder and director of the Whyteleafe academy Mr. Nalaka Swarnathilake and Dr. Sisira Withanachchi, a senior researcher and fellow/project manager and member of the water quality task force at the International Water Resourced Association from Germany was instrumental in guiding students on the vast topic of research which was a foreign subject to the children.
The relevant topics for researches were selected on timely matters in the social, cultural, educational, environmental and health subject areas and they were based on the preference of each Junior Researcher.
Life is not just about scores and grades, but about learning the rhythm of life.

The very first Junior Researchers of Sri Lanka, introduced by the Whyteleafe Academy will be publishing their research reports, creating a new standard for contributions made by children in the arena of research.
Accordingly, 15 research studies involving 20 children aged 12 to 18 will be made public.
This project was initiated in October, 2020 following a carefully detailed concept of Mr. Nalaka Swarnathilake – the Founder of Whyteleafe Academy. Dr. Sisira Vithanachchi, who was a Senior Researcher at the University of Kassel in Germany, took on the herculean task of educating these children about the complex field of research. He has been supervising the children for more than 1 1/2 years via Zoom, and teaching them the basics of initiating a research to the process of preparing a research report. Ms. Tharushi Jayathilake who is a young and a passionate teacher of Whyteleafe was given the task of leading children throughout the process while helping them with the guidance of Dr. Withanachchi.
With the guidance of such expertise, the children conducted surveys on a variety of social and cultural issues in areas including; education, health, environment, and media etc.
It is our hope that this group of children who will go down in history as a part of the research symposium of the Whyteleafe Academy will use the knowledge and experience gained by this to make the world an easier place to live in the future. They will perceive the world differently today than tomorrow.
